A) The following requirements apply to German citizens, EU citizens and students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school:

The maintenance scholarships which are awarded to German citizens, EU citizens and students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school will be calculated on the same basis as BAföG, depending on your parent’s income and/or your own income and personal assets. Irrespective of this, an independent book grant of 80 € per month will be awarded to all successful applicants.

You must be enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany at the time the scholarship payments begin. The foundation also grants scholarships for Master degree courses in other EU countries.

* Earliest application date: if you intend to enrol for a Bachelor or Masters degree, for a Diploma, Magister or State Examination, you can apply for a scholarship before your studies begin, but the earliest date for receiving payment will be the beginning of the first semester. We advise you to make your application in time for the start of your studies.
* Latest application date: within the prescribed maximum period of study you should still have at least four semesters before your final examinations, so that the foundation can support you for at least three semesters.

B) The following requirements apply to foreign applicants (except EU citizens) who wish to study in Germany:

You must be enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany at the time the scholarship payments begin.

* You should provide proof that you have already graduated with an initial professional qualification. This programme mainly supports students aiming for a Masters degree.
* You need a good knowledge of German, and we kindly ask you to provide proof of your proficiency. Please note that the selection workshop (interviews, group discussions) will normally be in German. Exceptions (interview in English) are, however, possible.
* Unfortunately, the current guidelines specify that we can not support foreign scholarship holders for stays abroad in third countries for more than four weeks.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Our global economy results in emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants which are directly influencing weather and climate. Climate change is already being felt, most keenly by the world’s poorest and vulnerable people. If these emissions continue unchecked, we will more dramatic changes in climate. The challenge of climate change is twofold. First, to make the transition to a lower-carbon global economy. Second, to adapt to the impacts of future climate changes. This will require difficult decisions about the way the economy and society are structured, and raises a range of difficult questions for development.

  • How believable are climate predictions?
  • How can we adapt to climate change? How will negotiations on greenhouse gas emissions affect developing nations?

Open Society Institute
Undergraduate Exchange Program 2010-2011

The Undergraduate Exchange Program (U.E.P.) supports students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Mongolia, Serbia, and Ukraine in the United States for one-year of non-degree academic studies and service learning and one subsequent year in their home country leading a community service project of their own design.  The program seeks to assist educational and civic development in Southeastern and Eastern Europe and Mongolia by exposing participants to a liberal arts curriculum, different models of classroom instruction, community service work, and civil society related programming.  The U.E.P. combines the U.S. liberal arts academic experience with exposure to American social issues and civic development through involvement in community service related work.  The program aims to create lasting ties among participants and their American colleagues thereby contributing to cultural understanding and tolerance.

Fellows attend a university or college in the United States for one year.  While in the U.S., grantees agree to complete 25 hours a semester (a total of 50 hours for the academic year) of community service work in an area of interest to them.  At the end of the year, they are required to return home to complete their degrees.  Once back in their home country, grantees are expected to carry out a community-based service project of their own design, addressing an issue of importance to them.  Throughout the term of the fellowship, grantees will attend bi-annual conferences to support their professional development and share personal experiences.

Applicants must currently be enrolled as a second-year student at a university in their home country to be eligible.  Participant selection and university placement is determined by a panel of experts in the United States.  Candidates do not apply to a specific university.

Eligibility
In order to qualify for the program, an applicant must:

1.    Be a resident of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Mongolia, Serbia, or Ukraine.
2.    Be a current second-year undergraduate student studying American Studies, Art History, Classical Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Economic Theory*, Fine or Performing Arts, History, International Relations, Journalism, Law, Literature and Languages, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, or Women’s or Gender Studies.  *Please note that economic theory does not include business administration or management.
3.    Be enrolled in an accredited university in his or her home country.  Ukrainian applicants must be studying at a university in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Poltava, Sumy, or Zaporizhia to be eligible.
4.    Be in the second year of study when applying and return to their home country to complete their degree following the program.
5.    Have an outstanding academic record.
6.    Demonstrate leadership or leadership potential and have a history of community and/or extracurricular involvement.
7.    Have spent previous two years in residence in home country.
8.    Have not attended a university in the United States.
9.    Have not attended high school in the United States for more than one academic semester.
10.    Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
11.    Be able to begin studies in the summer of 2010.

Selection Process
Selection is based on academic merit, extracurricular and community activities, leadership potential, and knowledge of English.  The number of awards varies by country, with approximately three to seven awards granted per country.

Participant selection is conducted in four stages.  All applicants which meet the above criteria will have their applications reviewed and evaluated by a U.S.-based team of university representatives.  Semi-finalists are invited for English language exams and an in-country interview conducted by U.S. education professionals.  Applications, interview evaluations, and exam results are all considered by a final selection team, which will then recommend university placements for finalists.  Final placements are determined by the U.S. universities.  Students cannot determine their own university placements.

Financial Terms
Program participants receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, room, board, living stipend, textbooks, transportation, and health insurance.  No financial support or special provisions are provided for dependents or family members.

Participant Responsibility
All participants must attend the pre-departure orientation program for one week in July 2010 (transportation, room, and board are paid for by the program), as well as conferences and other program activities throughout the academic year.  The orientation and program conferences are academically rigorous, and fellows are expected to attend and complete assignments for all sessions.  While in the United States, students must uphold the academic standards of the host institution and undertake full-time study for the duration of the program.  Students are advised to take courses of interest to them outside of their field of study in order to diversify and broaden their perspectives.  English language courses (as opposed to English literature classes) are discouraged.  Students should elect classes that are at a junior or advanced level.  No more than one language course or two introductory level courses of any discipline per semester will be allowed.

While in the U.S., grantees agree to complete 25 hours of community service related work per semester, a total of 50 hours of service per academic year.  The type of work will be chosen by the student and opportunities can be arranged with the help of the host university..

At the end of the year, fellows are required to return home to complete their degree at their home universities.  By accepting this award, participants agree not to enroll in a degree program at a university in the United States for one year upon completion of the exchange.  Requests for visa renewals or extensions will not be considered.  During their first year home, students are expected to complete a community service project or internship.  The placement and terms thereof will be arranged by the grantee in coordination with the local OSI scholarships coordinator in the grantee’s home country.

Master of Bioscience Program
28.08.2009 | Meђународне стипендије

The Master of Bioscience (MBS) challenges you to move past compartmentalized subject matter to unlock the relationships between business, engineering, and science.  It takes two intense years of cross-disciplinary study and real-world projects with leaders in the bioscience industry.  The program includes a hands-on internship and a capstone Team Master's Project.  The degree proves to be as dynamic as the experience of obtaining it.

Student Background and Preparation

All applicants must have received at least a  bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or its international equivalent, prior to enrollment.

Of the factors considered during the selection process, academic preparation, practical experience, and career aspirations will be foremost. Although a major in the natural/life sciences, pre-med, mathematics, engineering, or computer science is likely to provide the most thorough academic preparation for our program, it is not a prerequisite for admission. However, the demanding and broad reach of technical training at KGI requires a comparable level of requisite knowledge and skills.

Ideal preparation would include coursework in the following areas:

  • Molecular biology/basic genetics
  • Chemistry and biochemistry
  • Organic chemistry
  • Statistics
  • Mathematics (at least calculus; differential equations helpful)

Work experience in fields directly related to biotechnology, engineering, computing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and instrumentation, and medical, environmental, and agricultural biotechnology is looked upon favorably by the Admissions Committee. Employment in areas of policy planning, regulation, and businesses closely allied with the life sciences also provides relevant experience.

The Master's Program International Media Studies is a four-semester, full-time program for further education. It is a joint project from the University of Bonn, the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and Deutsche Welle, Germany's international broadcaster with its headquarters in Bonn.

The bilingual Master's Program offers a unique course offer given the current development of global media and the connection between media and cooperative development. Philosophy

Free and independent media is a significant factor for a functioning democracy, social justice and the protection of human rights. The Master's Program is based on the belief that there is a connection between democracy and development, between the freedom of opinion and democracy as well as between free media and development. The prerequisite for the establishment of a functioning, free media system are journalists who realize their role as a critical observer and reporter. This can only be guaranteed when they are professionally trained and feel obligated by a set of journalistic ethics.

By training journalists academically, the Master's Program is therefore a targeted step towards making the media spokespeople for openness within democracy.

The courses are based on the values of democracy, freedom and conflict prevention, civil society and good government - representative of the connection between the media and cooperative development.

Objective

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills that are essential for a journalistic career. They will be able to meet specific occupational requirements with expertise and communicative independence.

The Master's Program trains students - personally and professionally - to be competent journalists and prepare them for a challenging role as expert or manager in the media sector.

Target Group

The program is targeted at students from around the world that want to work in a position of responsibility in journalism or the communications sector. It especially addresses journalists-in-training, media representatives from radio, TV, online and print and communication experts.

Those interested must have already completed an academic program (bachelor's or equivalent) and have at least one year of professional media experience.

The program will be bilingual (English and German), whereby English will be the prevalent course language.

Especially targeted at:

  • Media representatives from radio, TV, online and print
  • Journalists-in-training, especially from electronic media
  • Journalists and management from community radio stations
  • Communication experts
  • NGO employees
  • Employees from ministries
  • Employees from cooperative development groups and projects
  • Representatives from regional working groups and national broadcasters
  • Media association representatives

This program was launched some years ago by the University of Bologna, Italy; it is taught entirely in English (120 ECTS) and provides a joint diploma of the Universities of Bologna , Ljubljana , Vytautas Magnus University at Kaunas , Corvinus University of Budapest and, from the next Academic Year 2009-2010, the State University of St Petersburg .

MIREES students will spend the first year in Forlì (one of the five campuses of the University of Bologna), while in the second year a minimum of 5 months will be spent at Partner Universities and, in particular cases, at MIREES Associated Universities in the Balkans. A mobility grant is offered to all enrolled students.

More detailed information on the teaching plan and the Faculty, together with the application form, can be found at our web site: www.mirees.unibo.it. The next deadline for applications is May 15th, 2009.

The program is especially recommended for prospective PhD students. Our best alumni are currently attending doctorate programs at the Universities of Oxford, Kent, the New School in New York and other prestigious international academic institutions. Moreover, the program is designed to forge analysts, area experts, consultants and mediators, to meet the needs of research institutes, the European Commission, international agencies, voluntary organizations and NGO's, public administration, managers, corporations and banks located in East-Central Europe and the Balkans or promoting investments in these regions. Most of our alumni have found employment precisely in these fields.

The MIREES program offers specialized, in-depth knowledge of the post-socialist countries in transition, the new EU member states, and the new East-European neighbour countries to students with a BA in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Languages (and Slavic languages in particular), agricultural studies and cultural studies generally.

The program aims at developing language skills. MIREES offers courses in Bosnian-Croatian- Serbian, Bulgarian, basic and advanced Russian, and Slovak (Hungarian and Lithuanian are also available in the 2nd year), as well as Italian for foreigners as an additional option. The curriculum stresses interdisciplinary studies in the economics of transition; politics and international relations; media studies; and history and cultural studies focused on Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Thirdly, the international dimension of the programme is enhanced through student mobility, by an international faculty composed of prominent scholars of international repute, and a genuinely international student body. (In the previous five cycles we enrolled students from 21 countries including the US, Mexico, Russia, Georgia, Estonia, Macedonia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Albania, Poland, Armenia, Norway, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and, of course, Italy.)

Therefore, we would be extremely grateful if you could encourage your BA students to consider applying to this two year program and, at the same time, if you could forward this message to your colleagues interested in this part of the world. With this in mind we are sending you as an attachment our promotional flyer in a pdf file. It briefly covers all the general aspects of the program, as well as the mission and the profile of our Master of Arts.

Should you need further information, please feel free to contact the Tutor of the course at facscpol-fo.tutormirees@unibo.it or the Faculty Student Office (info.spfo@unibo.it , phone +39.0543.374145) .

MFA in Visual Art at Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts

Washington University's Graduate School of Art seeks diverse, highly motivated students for the 2009-2010 academic year. This two-year, critically engaged studio program provides numerous opportunities for collaboration and both disciplinary-specific and interdisciplinary study. The program accommodates a maximum of 50 students to promote a vigorous exchange of ideas while maintaining a close-knit, supportive community. Upon successful completion, participants will earn a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Art.

The Program
Today's vastly expanded context for art making requires artists to understand strategies of production, various modes of critical analysis, distribution, and reception of creative work. The program prepares students to address progressive social change and assume their roles as global citizens through avenues such as study abroad programs, public engagement opportunities, and research and travel grants.

Graduate seminars provide students opportunities to study theory through studio practice. The curriculum also offers a robust thesis component in which students are mentored and supported in their writing and in the development of their ideas. Studio-based work is supported by dedicated staff and faculty who are active artists and designers.

The Public Lecture Series brings nationally and internationally recognized artists, architects, historians, and critics to campus, promoting new ideas in practice, theory, and technology in art, architecture, and design. Invited speakers routinely come to graduate students' studios for one-on-one reviews of their work.

Sam Fox School of Design Visual Arts

.International Business Scholarship Program 2009, Canada
International Business Scholarship Program 2009, Canada: Export Development Canada (EDC) launched its 11th annual national competition of the EDC International Business Scholarship Program.

EDCs International Business Scholarship Program is designed to help grow Canada's trade competencies and underlines the importance of international trade among Canada's future business leaders. By incorporating environmental studies with international business into the program, EDC is helping to build Canada's future capacity to engage in international trade in an environmentally responsible manner.

Canada has an urgent need to improve our skills and education to produce a generation that has trade in its DNA. Our brightest business school graduates need to aspire to careers with Canadian companies on the streets of Mumbai and Shanghai, not only Bay Street, said EDC's President and CEO Eric Siegel to a senior business audience in Toronto in June.

EDC will offer as many as 30 scholarships, 25 of which will recognize exceptional students in the field of international business or economics. The remaining 5 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding business students who combine these fields with a focus on sustainable management or environment studies.

The scholarship winners will receive a $3,000 cash award and, if eligible, a possible four-month work term worth approximately $10,000. The work term includes mentoring from leading industry experts at EDC's head office in Ottawa. This year's application deadline is January 26, 2009. Scholarships will be awarded in the spring of 2009 and work terms will be available for the summer of 2009. Students interested in an EDC work term should indicate this at the time of applying for the scholarship.

EDC's scholarship program is a key component of its Education and Youth Employment (EYE) Strategy. For additional information about EDC's EYE Strategy and International Business Scholarships, please visit: www.edc.ca/cbie

The program is managed on behalf of EDC by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE). We are proud to manage the EDC International Business Scholarships, said Jim Fox, CBIE President. This Program recognizes excellence and provides added support to top students. Through cultivating the country's fresh talent, EDC is helping position Canada for cutting-edge achievement in both international and green business.

CBIE is a national non-governmental organization with a membership comprising 200 universities, colleges, institutes, school boards, educational organizations, training agencies and provincial ministries of education. CBIE has extensive expertise in scholarship, fellowship and internship management. For information about CBIE, please visit: www.cbie.ca.

EDC is Canada's export credit agency, offering innovative commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC's knowledge and partnerships are used by nearly 7,000 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year. Eiffel programme
24.12.2008 | Meђународне стипендије

French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs - Eiffel programme scholarship The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs is introducing a single application procedure for its Eiffel Scholarship and Eiffel Doctorate Scholarship programmes. However, the two programmes have different application forms.

The new Eiffel programme thus covers two types of course:
- Master’s postgraduate degree course
- Ten-month co-tutored or co-managed component (preferably second or third year) of PhD course

The objectives of the Eiffel excellence programme are to offer French higher-education opportunities for future public- and private-sector decision-makers in three priority areas: science; economics & management; and law & political science.

The second objective is to reach students from emerging countries (with priority on Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and new members of the European Union), though the PhD scholarships also address students from industrialized countries.

Applications from students currently studying outside France will be given priority over those from students already studying in France.

Eiffel grants cover the following subject areas:
- Engineering sciences for the Master’s course, and sciences in a broader sense for the PhD course (engineering sciences, exact sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry) life sciences, nano- and bio-technologies, earth and environment sciences, and information & communication sciences).
- Economics and management.
- Law and political science.

Candidates must not be aged over 30 for a Master’s scholarship (born after 01/01/1979) or over 35 for a PhD scholarship(born after 01/01/1974).

Ineligibility factors:
- French government grantholders: the Eiffel programme is not open to holders of other French government grants on other programmes, or grants from an organization financed wholly or partly by the French government or French territorial authorities, or welfare coverage grants
- Previous applicants for Eiffel grants: except on the master’s programme, previously refused applicants may not re-apply, even in a different subject
- Students targeting careers in education or research (for the master’s programme).
- Applicants not presented by a French centre (i.e. applications by students themselves, or submitted by a non-French centre)
- Duplicate applications, i.e. students proposed by more than one French centre.

Applications must be submitted with all the supporting documents listed on page 5 of the application form, and bear the official seal of the French higher education centre plus the signature of the official head of the centre (university dean, school director, etc.), formally certifying the statement of the centre's international outreach policy. The quality charter must also be initialled separately to mark formal acceptance. Applications for Eiffel grants are submitted by French higher education centres from a shortlist of outstanding students they would like to enrol on their courses.

Selection is to three criteria:
- Academic excellence of applicant, as attested by achievement to date (rated on a scale of 10 and weighted with a coefficient of 3).
- International policy of centre submitting application, operations addressing the geographical region in question, calibre of host unit, and suitability with regard to the application (rated on a scale of 5 and weighted to a coefficient of 3).
- Cooperation policy of French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, especially as regards the priorities set for different countries under the programme (rated on a scale of 5 and weighted to a coefficient of 1).

The list of successful applicants will be published on-line (www.egide.asso.fr/eiffel).

The schedule for the 2009 Eiffel programme is as follows:
- Application forms available online: September 2008
- Applications to be submitted by Egide: 9 January 2009
- Results announced in week beginning 23 March 2009
