Vienna summer program 25.01.2009 | Seminar International Summer Program 2009 of the University of Vienna
The Sommerhochschule offers European Studies and German language courses. The European Studies Program offered at the International Summer Program consists of two two-week sessions. Six courses with 30 contact hours each are offered during each session.
Most courses are taught by senior faculty of the University of Vienna. By tradition professors from universities in the United States, Western and Eastern Europe are also invited to teach at the International Summer Program.
When and where: 18th July – 15th August 2009, Vienna, Austria
The German language courses last both sessions and consist of 60 contact hours each.
In the course of the four week program students are required to complete one of the following options:
1. three European Studies courses (out of twelve offered), or
2. German I, II, III or IV plus one European Studies course.
This is the minimum requirement students have to fulfil during their stay at the International Summer Program but students may also enrol or audit additional courses. The maximum number of courses students can attend during the summer program is four.
Students who successfully attend and complete four courses will receive the SHS Diploma of European Studies.
In addition to the fact that students have to fulfil the Sommerhochschule requirements course selection has to be made according to the requirements of the respective home university. It is recommended to discuss course selections with representatives of the home universities in advance to enable or simplify accreditation after the program.
For the course selection it is important to keep in mind that all European Studies courses last one session whereas the German language courses last both sessions.
Classroom attendance is vitally important to a successful completion of each course, particularly those relying on classroom discussion or other forms of active participation by the students. Therefore regular classroom attendance is mandatory for all courses. Students absent from classes without leave can not be graded.
The Sommerhochschule reserves the right to cancel any course for which the number of registered students is deemed insufficient, or for other compelling reasons.
A limited number of partial scholarships for the European Studies is offered by various sponsors every year. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need. In order to receive a scholarship students have to proof their financial need by stating their financial situation and submitting related documents.
All applications for scholarships must reach the office of the International Summer Program by February 28, 2009.
Please note that the scholarships are granted for the European Studies program only, therefore scholarship students must attend and complete at least three European Studies courses. German courses can only be taken in addition to those three European Studies courses.
More information and application can be found here: www.univie.ac.at/sommerhochschule/
